Saver.Global has launched a new complimentary mobile course titled “Safe Surfing,” designed to teach Fijians essential skills for navigating the digital world safely. Available on the SaverLearning platform, this initiative was announced during a webinar in collaboration with Vodafone Fiji and the Consumer Council of Fiji.
The webinar highlighted the pressing issue of online scams, with the Consumer Council of Fiji reporting over 1,490 scam complaints since 2022, resulting in losses exceeding $2.3 million. Jon Capal, Chief Executive of Saver.Global, emphasized the course’s practical focus, catering to everyday mobile users by covering critical topics such as identifying scams, protecting personal information, and online privacy. Importantly, the course is tailored for all literacy levels to ensure widespread accessibility.
Seema Shandil, CEO of the Consumer Council of Fiji, warned about increasingly sophisticated scams targeting the population. She underscored the organization’s commitment to empowering consumers with knowledge to identify and avoid scams effectively. Vodafone Fiji’s Shailendra Prasad added that with the evolvement of cyber threats—including phishing, fraudulent apps, social media scams, and AI-driven fraud—users must be vigilant and verify suspicious requests before sharing sensitive information.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance digital literacy and consumer protection in Fiji, reflecting a growing awareness of the need for educational programs that enable citizens to safeguard themselves against digital threats.
The launch of the “Safe Surfing” course comes at a crucial time as it aims to equip individuals with the tools necessary to confidently navigate the online landscape, fostering a safer digital environment for all Fijians.
