Newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, has highlighted significant changes in Fiji’s political and security landscape. He emphasized the importance of the Fiji Police Force maintaining distance from any external influences. During a press conference, Tudravu expressed the need for the police to exercise caution in their operations in light of these changes.
Following a meeting with Minister for Policing, Iowane Naivalurua, Tudravu outlined his plans to reorganize and optimize the manpower and budget resources available to the police. His goal is to enhance the service delivered to the Fijian people. Tudravu acknowledged that if additional support is necessary to improve services, the Fiji Police Force would request more resources from the Government.
“We will work to maximize our current resources, allowing us to advance police operations while serving the community effectively,” Tudravu stated. He also shared with the Minister his vision for leading the police force in the future.
This proactive stance by Tudravu reflects a commitment to ensuring the Fijian police force is well-equipped to serve in a complex environment. By focusing on resource optimization and maintaining independence, the police can better uphold their mandate to protect and serve the public.
In summary, Commissioner Tudravu’s approach suggests a positive avenue for strengthening the Fiji Police Force’s operations while ensuring they remain focused on their primary duty to the citizens of Fiji.
