Fiji’s New Party People First Enters Public Objection Period

The Fijian Elections Office has unveiled details surrounding the formation of a new political party named People First. This initiative is spearheaded by a coalition of 10 current parliamentarians, alongside supporters who previously belonged to the now-defunct Fiji First party.

The proposed constitution for People First highlights its commitment to inclusivity, aiming to engage citizens from all backgrounds, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or socio-economic status. Central to the party’s vision are three foundational objectives: building a unified and democratic nation that embraces tolerance and patriotism; upholding the rule of law and maintaining national integrity; and placing the welfare and rights of citizens at the forefront of governance.

The Fijian Elections Office has opened a period for public objections, which will remain active for seven days from the announcement. This offers a crucial opportunity for citizens to voice their opinions regarding the new party’s establishment.

The formation of People First signals an evolving political landscape in Fiji, with a focus on fostering community engagement and prioritizing citizen-centric policies. The new party’s emphasis on inclusivity and welfare reflects a hopeful step forward in nurturing democratic values and national unity.
