Fiji’s New High Commissioner: A Military Leader Takes on Diplomacy

Jackson Bernard Nato Evans has been appointed as Fiji’s High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea. The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, who congratulated Evans and expressed his best wishes for success in this important diplomatic role.

Bringing over 35 years of military experience to the position, Evans is a highly regarded military officer. Prior to his latest appointment, he held the role of Director of Force Development and Strategic Command within the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) since 2011. His extensive experience includes a notable deployment as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment in Iraq in May 2007.

Evans’ impressive military track record also encompasses his role as Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at the RFMF Headquarters in 2006 and his promotion to Colonel in 2008. His commitment to service has earned him several accolades, including the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for his efforts in Egypt and two Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medals for Exemplary Leadership in 1999 and 2000.

This appointment not only highlights the recognition of Evans’ commendable service but also underscores Fiji’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties in the region. With his extensive background, he is well-positioned to foster collaboration between Fiji and Papua New Guinea, paving the way for fruitful relations ahead.
