The Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital is poised to fulfill the ambitions set forth by the Fijian Government to transform Fiji into a prominent health tourism destination, as stated by Parvish Kumar, the founder and managing director. The hospital is equipped with advanced medical technology and specialized personnel to support this niche market in tourism.

Kumar expressed the hospital’s commitment to aligning with the government’s objectives for health tourism, emphasizing their readiness to meet the expectations of stakeholders by providing top-notch healthcare services at competitive prices. The establishment of a new cardiology department marks a significant step in this direction, highlighted by the success of their first open-heart surgery.

The 100-bed hospital recently achieved a milestone with its inaugural open-heart surgery performed in Nadi. The operation, a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), was conducted on 61-year-old Kusum Lata by a skilled team of cardiothoracic specialists on November 11. Lata’s procedure involved a triple graft and was completed without complications. She showed excellent recovery signs and was discharged just a few days later.

Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka highlighted the importance of developing Fiji’s healthcare infrastructure to benefit both local residents and medical tourists. He noted that medical tourism attracts those seeking affordable and quality medical care abroad, with Fiji aiming to draw inspiration from successful markets like India.

Currently, about two percent of visitors to Fiji engage in health-related activities, as revealed by Gavoka. The government is encouraging private investment in healthcare by offering incentives such as investment allowances and duty-free entry for specific medical equipment.

Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, stated the significance of showcasing Fiji’s medical capabilities to international patients. He affirmed that Fiji is an ideal location for pre-and post-operative recovery in stunning surroundings, anticipating more successful treatments in the country.

Dr. Ram Raju, former president of the Fiji College of General Practitioners and current president of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, viewed this achievement as not just significant for Nadi but impactful for the entire country. He believes that this development heralds promising opportunities for complex medical procedures and solidifies Fiji’s reputation as a reputable health tourism destination.

This article paints a positive picture of Fiji’s aspirations in the health tourism sector, showcasing a proactive approach to enhancing healthcare services while attracting global attention. The successful implementation of advanced medical procedures could pave the way for sustainable growth and economic benefits for the Fijian community.
