Fiji’s New Foreign Policy: Aiming for Stronger Global Ties

Fiji’s newly released Foreign Policy White Paper aims to enhance development assistance through strengthened relationships with Pacific and international partners. This goal was highlighted by Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lenora Qereqeretabua, during a farewell visit from Gaël Sánchez Cano, the Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Spain in Fiji, who is concluding his diplomatic mission.

Qereqeretabua reiterated Fiji’s commitment as outlined in the Foreign Policy White Paper and the “Ocean of Peace” concept initiated by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. She emphasized the importance of collaborating with development partners in the Pacific to achieve common objectives, including economic prosperity, peace, security, and sustainable development.

In this context, Qereqeretabua welcomed discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation on issues of mutual interest between Fiji and Spain. She expressed gratitude to Cano for his service to Fiji and wished him success in his future endeavors.

Cano praised Prime Minister Rabuka for the Ocean of Peace initiative and affirmed Spain’s support for this important project. He also recognized the significance of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, which provides clear guidance for advancing mutual priorities and shared goals.
