Fiji’s New Foreign Policy: Aiming for Oceanic Prosperity with Spain

Fiji’s newly launched Foreign Policy White Paper emphasizes enhancing development assistance through stronger multilateral and bilateral relationships with Pacific and international partners. This initiative was highlighted by Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua during a farewell visit from Gaël Sánchez Cano, the Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Spain in Fiji, who is wrapping up his diplomatic term.

Qereqeretabua reiterated the principles outlined in the Foreign Policy White Paper and the “Ocean of Peace” initiative championed by Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka. She emphasized Fiji’s dedication to collaborating closely with development partners in the Pacific to achieve common objectives pertaining to economic prosperity, peace, security, and sustainable development.

In this context, Qereqeretabua expressed enthusiasm for advancing cooperation on issues of mutual concern between Fiji and Spain. She also expressed gratitude to Cano for his contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavors.

Cano praised Prime Minister Rabuka for the “Ocean of Peace” initiative and expressed Spain’s support for this important concept. He also recognized the significance of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, highlighting its role in providing a clear and effective framework for advancing shared priorities and goals.
