Fiji’s New Foreign Policy: A Bold Step Toward Global Partnerships

Fiji’s recently launched Foreign Policy White Paper emphasizes the importance of enhancing development assistance through stronger multilateral and bilateral relationships with Pacific and international partners. This goal was highlighted by Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua during a farewell meeting with Gaël Sánchez Cano, the Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Spain in Fiji, who is finishing his diplomatic term.

Qereqeretabua reaffirmed Fiji’s positions outlined in the Foreign Policy White Paper and emphasized the “Ocean of Peace” concept championed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. She reiterated Fiji’s commitment to collaborating closely with development partners in the Pacific to achieve shared objectives of economic growth, peace, security, and sustainable development.

In this context, Qereqeretabua welcomed discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation on topics of mutual interest between Fiji and Spain. She expressed her gratitude to Cano for his dedicated service to Fiji and wished him success in his future pursuits.

Cano praised Prime Minister Rabuka for the Ocean of Peace initiative and expressed Spain’s support for the significant endeavor. He also recognized the importance of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, underscoring the need for clear and effective direction to advance mutual priorities and goals.
