Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital (PSH) in Nadi is poised to welcome an influx of Australian patients following Fiji Airways’ announcement of new direct flights from Cairns to Nadi starting April 10, 2025. Parvish Kumar, founder and chief executive of PSH, emphasized that the facility, a modern 100-bed hospital located just a short distance from Nadi International Airport, aligns with the Fijian government’s vision of establishing the country as a premier medical tourism destination.
Kumar expressed enthusiasm about the convenience the new service brings, with flights operating three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. This will enable Australians to access high-quality medical services quickly upon arrival in Fiji.
He noted that Australians make up the majority of tourists to Fiji, and with a visa exemption for visits under four months, this new route adds significant appeal. PSH is prepared to offer medical procedures at considerably lower costs compared to Australia, highlighting that a heart bypass surgery, which can cost around $100,000 in Australia, is available at PSH for a fraction of that price.
Kumar pointed out the alarming statistics regarding cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Australia, which is a leading cause of death, claiming one life every 12 minutes. This information underlines the importance of accessible healthcare solutions and the potential benefits of seeking treatment abroad.
Cairns Airport CEO Richard Barker commended the new flight connection, describing it as an opportunity for Australians to explore Fiji both as a vacation spot and to visit family. He also mentioned that Fiji Airways’ membership in the Oneworld alliance would enhance travel options across North America, further promoting the region as a tourism and health destination.
This development reflects a positive shift towards making healthcare more accessible and affordable for Australians, offering them alternatives while supporting Fiji’s tourism industry.
As Fiji positions itself as a leading player in medical tourism, it presents a promising opportunity for both healthcare facilities like PSH and visitors seeking quality care at reasonable prices.
