Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital (PSH) in Nadi is optimistic about welcoming more Australian visitors following Fiji Airways’ announcement of direct flights from Cairns to Nadi starting April 10, 2025. As a modern medical facility with 100 beds located just a stone’s throw from Nadi International Airport, PSH aims to align with the Fijian government’s vision of transforming the nation into a prime medical tourism hotspot.
Parvish Kumar, the founder and CEO of PSH, expressed enthusiasm about this development, highlighting the significance of the newly established direct flights, which will operate three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—allowing Australians to access high-quality medical services within about 4.5 hours of travel.
Kumar pointed out that Australians benefit from the visa-free policy for stays under four months, making medical travel to Fiji even more appealing. He emphasized the cost-effectiveness of procedures at PSH, noting that complex surgeries such as heart bypass operations can be performed at a fraction of the price compared to Australia. Notably, with cardiovascular disease being a leading cause of death for Australians—claiming one in four lives—this accessibility to affordable healthcare could prove lifesaving.
In addition to the new flight connections enhancing medical tourism, Cairns Airport CEO Richard Barker praised the initiative for broadening travel opportunities to the South Pacific as an ideal getaway or for reuniting with family. He also mentioned the benefits of Fiji Airways’ full membership in the Oneworld alliance, which will expand connectivity across North America, making it a convenient option for many travelers.
This development not only bolsters Fiji’s position in the medical tourism sector but also provides Australians with timely access to necessary medical services, potentially saving lives and offering a healthy alternative to expensive healthcare options at home.
In summary, PSH’s efforts, complemented by improved flight access, position Fiji as a desirable destination for medical tourists, reflecting a bright future for healthcare in the region while fostering international connections.
