Filipo Tarakinikini has been named the new Ambassador-designate of Fiji to Israel, as confirmed by two official posts on social media. His credentials are set to be presented on April 28, 2025. In addition to this new role, Tarakinikini also serves as Fiji’s Ambassador to the United Nations.
Eynat Shlein, the deputy director general of Israel’s international development cooperation agency, expressed her honor in meeting with Mr. Tarakinikini. Their discussions centered on fostering sustainable development and exploring various cooperation opportunities, including capacity building and human capital investment.
Fiji’s commitment to deepening its diplomatic relations with Israel is highlighted by this appointment, as the nation is among the few, being only the seventh globally, to establish an embassy in Israel. This focus on enhancing ties between the two countries has been evident in recent initiatives, including the recent appointment of Rokoseru Nabalarua as the Honorary Consul of Israel, which also illustrates the efforts made to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, including security, agriculture, and climate change.
The establishment of Fiji’s embassy in Jerusalem, as revealed in prior announcements, is anticipated to further solidify these diplomatic connections, providing a hopeful outlook for enhanced collaboration and mutual benefits, particularly in tackling global challenges together.
This evolving relationship not only serves the interests of both nations but also represents a proactive approach in deepening international partnerships that could offer substantial advancements in critical areas for both Fiji and Israel.
