President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere of Fiji officially commissioned Jackson Bernard Nato Evans as Fiji’s High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea at a ceremony held at the State House. During the event, President Katonivere extended his congratulations to High Commissioner Evans and expressed confidence in his capability to excel in this important diplomatic role.

High Commissioner Evans is a seasoned military figure with an impressive career spanning over 35 years. Prior to his current appointment, he was reappointed in 2011 as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF). His extensive experience includes serving as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment in Iraq in May 2007.

Throughout his distinguished military journey, Evans has made significant contributions, serving as Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at RFMF Headquarters in 2006 and achieving the rank of Colonel in 2008. His commitment to peacekeeping operations has earned him several accolades, including the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for his service in Egypt and the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership, which he received on two occasions in November 1999 and May 2000.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by notable figures such as Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, along with close family members of High Commissioner Evans.

This appointment signifies a strengthened commitment of Fiji in enhancing diplomatic ties with Papua New Guinea, showcasing the expertise and leadership that Evans brings to his new role.
