Three former members of the FijiFirst party—Iowane Naivalurua, Viliame Naupoto, and Mosese Bulitavu—have officially been sworn in as Ministers in the Rabuka-Coalition Government. Naivalurua assumes the role of Minister for Policing, while Naupoto is appointed as the Minister for Immigration. Bulitavu takes on the important position of Minister Responsible for Climate Change. The ceremony was conducted at the State House by His Excellency the President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.
Additionally, Aliki Bia has been sworn in as the new Assistant Minister for Information, Naisa Tuinaceva as Assistant Minister for Transport, and Ratu Josaia Niudamu as the Assistant Minister for Justice. The Ministerial reshuffling reflects an intention to enhance inclusivity within the government by incorporating members from diverse political backgrounds into leadership roles.
A press conference is scheduled for later today where the Prime Minister is expected to provide further insights on these developments and the direction of the government.
This transition marks a pivotal moment in Fiji’s political landscape, focusing on critical areas such as immigration and climate action. Such appointments not only signal a shift towards addressing pressing national issues but also present an opportunity for a collaborative governance approach that could foster innovative responses to the challenges facing the nation. The integration of former opposition members into these roles is a hopeful step towards enhancing government efficacy and responsiveness to the needs of the Fijian people.
