Fiji’s New Campaign: Will You Bin It or Bag It?

Tourism Fiji has introduced the “Bin it or Bag it” campaign aimed at fostering a litter-free environment as part of its sustainable tourism initiatives. This effort emerged from the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention, focusing on reducing litter with the involvement of nearly 15 partners, including leading hotels and resorts, who have contributed over FJ$100,000 in funding and resources.

The campaign encourages both Fijians and tourists to properly dispose of waste, either using bins or by storing it in bags for later disposal. It aims to inspire a community movement towards environmental conservation.

Local artists are collaborating with Tourism Fiji on this campaign, which includes a catchy jingle and visuals featuring a character named ‘Kasikasi’ to promote responsible waste management. Reusable bags bearing the campaign slogan will be distributed at various locations throughout Fiji.

Brent Hill, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, emphasized the shared responsibility in protecting the environment. He expressed excitement about launching the “Bin it or Bag it” campaign alongside their dedicated partners, reaffirming their commitment to sustainable tourism practices and urging everyone to adopt the message of “Bin it or Bag it.”

The campaign will be marketed through various media outlets and is aligned with national sustainability objectives in partnership with government ministries. Chief Marketing Officer Srishti Narayan expressed her hope that the initiative will bring together the community, industry, and government efforts towards environmental conservation.
