Nearly 15 stakeholders from the tourism industry have pledged over $100,000, along with media space and creative expertise, to support Tourism Fiji’s ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign aimed at promoting a litter-free Fiji.
This initiative emerged from the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention and is spearheaded by several significant players, including the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, The Holiday Inn, Rosie Holidays, and Ahura Resorts.
The ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign urges both Fijians and visitors to dispose of waste responsibly. This can be done by placing trash in bins when available or keeping it in a bag until it can be discarded properly.
Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, expressed excitement about the campaign’s launch, stating, “We are thrilled to launch the ‘Bin it or Bag it’ campaign alongside our dedicated partners. This initiative embodies our commitment to sustainable tourism practices and highlights the collective responsibility we share in safeguarding Fiji’s environment.”
Hill encouraged everyone to adopt the campaign’s message as it is designed to protect the stunning natural landscape of Fiji and hopes to spur meaningful conversations and community actions towards maintaining cleanliness in the environment.
Local artists, including musician Kuki and creative designer Studio Lily Kate, collaborated with Tourism Fiji’s creative agency Havas to create an engaging campaign featuring a memorable jingle and distinctive Fijian artwork.
A notable aspect of the campaign is the introduction of ‘Kasikasi,’ a character that appears in the campaign’s illustrations, set to become a recognizable figure advocating for responsible waste management.
