The Fiji men’s invitational netball team has started its journey to Melbourne, Australia, where they will compete in the 2025 Australian Men’s and Mixed Netball Association (AMMNA) Championship. This championship is a crucial part of the team’s preparations for the Fiji Men’s International Series, scheduled for August in Suva. The team is set to play ten matches in the reserve grade division.

Their participation comes after a successful performance in Singapore last December, where they were crowned champions. Head coach Jioweli Vakamoce sees this tournament as an opportunity to enhance their strategies and test player combinations. He stated, “Playing 10 games in a competitive environment gives our players the chance to lift their performance and adapt under pressure.”

The AMMNA Championship showcases some of the top men’s and mixed netball talent from Australia, and Fiji’s involvement emphasizes the growing strength of men’s netball in the Pacific region. Netball Fiji expressed gratitude to supporters, families, clubs, and partners for their continued backing.

The roster includes shooters such as Joseva Nawaqa, Kitione Waqavonovono, Isoa Fou, and Amena Nacavaraba. Key mid-court players include Peniasi Bolatawa, Atama Waqanivavalagi, Sikeli Tagayawa, and Poasa Vulaono, while defenders consist of Savenaca Sorovaki, Vilive Wainidroa, Sireli Tuidraki, and Nacanieli Goneyali.

Their opening matches will be against South Australia and the ACT on Sunday, April 13, followed by games against Queensland 23s and Western Australia on the following day. The tournament continues with matches against Tasmania, the Australian Defence Force, New South Wales, and Victoria in the following days, concluding with a game against Victoria on April 18.

This competitive experience is vital for the team’s development and helps build a solid foundation as they prepare for future challenges.
