More than 100 teams from 25 districts around Fiji are set to compete in the Crest Fiji Primary School Netball Finals, which began today at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. This exciting event highlights the nation’s rich netball talent, as noted by Fiji Primary Schools vice president Elenoa Vadei, who remarked on the impressive gathering of students from various areas.
The tournament will span three days and feature six age categories ranging from under-nine to under-14. Vadei expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating the anticipation felt by schools across the country as they gear up to play. Highlighting the local involvement, she explained that, for instance, the Suva district has 25 schools participating, showcasing the pool of talent available.
Goodman Fielder has stepped in as the major sponsor for this year’s competition, reflecting a commitment to support grassroots sports in Fiji. The tournament will conclude on Thursday, and it promises to shine a spotlight on the dedication and skill of young netball athletes.
Notably, this event parallels the upcoming Crest Chicken Fiji Secondary Schools Netball Championship, which will occur from August 21 to 23, where secondary-level athletes will have the opportunity to showcase their talents as well. This interconnectedness of events highlights a robust support system for netball at both primary and secondary levels, contributing to the overall development of the sport in Fiji.
The participation of so many teams and the excitement surrounding these events provide a hopeful outlook for the future of netball in Fiji, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young talent in sports.
