The Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) is set to broadcast the highly anticipated 38th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s live and exclusively on its FBC Sports channel, providing a pay-per-view option for fans located overseas. This significant event will unfold at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on March 14th and 15th, marking a milestone in Fijian grassroots rugby.
Tournament Coordinator Jeffery Tamata expressed the tournament’s longstanding dedication to supporting grassroots players, highlighting this year’s event as a major part of a tradition that spans nearly four decades. He stated, “The main focus is on the grassroots level of rugby in Fiji, and we are incredibly grateful for the support received from FBC and various sponsors.”
Supporting these sentiments, FBC TV General Manager Sitiveni Halofaki remarked that the partnership is crucial in promoting grassroots rugby in Fiji. He emphasized that fostering local talent aligns with one of FBC’s core values, reinforcing their commitment to the community and the sport.
This year’s Nawaka 7s tournament continues the legacy established by previous events, which not only celebrate rugby but also nurture young talents who aim to represent Fiji at higher levels. This tournament is part of the larger Fiji Bitter Sevens series, which consists of 12 tournaments held across the country, providing aspiring players with significant exposure and experience.
Notably, the Nawaka 7s is being held back-to-back with the Marist 7s, allowing for an exceptional opportunity for grassroots players to compete in two major tournaments within a short span, thereby enhancing their chances for visibility and progression in the sport.
As Fiji actively promotes rugby through these community-focused initiatives, the enthusiasm surrounding the upcoming event illustrates the role of sports in fostering unity, development, and vibrant local culture within the nation.
