A 17-year-old student was among 14 individuals arrested for drunk driving during a series of nationwide Random Breath Test operations conducted last night. The Traffic Enforcement Unit from Police Headquarters initiated its second round of tests on the Namaka–Nadi corridor, where they screened approximately 320 drivers and apprehended 11 for driving under the influence.
In a separate operation in Suva, additional tests were conducted on 38 drivers, leading to three more arrests, including that of the 17-year-old provisional license holder. The overall count of those arrested during these operations included five provisional license holders, three drivers of public service vehicles, and six individuals holding Group 2 licenses.
Authorities are reiterating their warning to young drivers and public transport operators, emphasizing that drunk driving poses a significant risk to lives and will not be tolerated. The commitment to addressing this critical issue highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and protect the community from the dangers associated with impaired driving.
