The Permanent Secretary for Education, Selina Kuruleca, stated that the IQ Active competition promotes academic involvement and fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities among students. During the launch of the national secondary school general knowledge quiz competition, she highlighted the significance of the event in enhancing educational engagement.
This year, 50 secondary schools, which include five maritime institutions, are taking part in the 2024 competition, involving over 200 students from various divisions. Kuruleca praised Fiji TV for revitalizing the competition, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and effective communication among participants.
She expressed that the competition should inspire students to nurture critical thinking skills. “Instead of solely approaching a problem from one perspective, you should be encouraged to think creatively and critically to improve your problem-solving skills,” she noted. Kuruleca urged students to study diligently while also applying creative and critical thinking to find the best solutions.
Felix Chaudhary, Acting CEO of Fiji Television, affirmed the company’s dedication to supporting Fiji’s education sector. “Fiji TV is committed to enhancing literacy and numeracy, and we aim to continue these efforts into the future,” he remarked.
The 2024 IQ Active competition is set to debut on October 7 on Fiji One.
