The National Fire Authority (NFA) in Fiji is calling on citizens to remain vigilant and prioritize fire safety as the festive season approaches. NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane has issued a public reminder emphasizing the importance of caution during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

With a rise in social events such as weddings and festive gatherings, Sowane noted that there tends to be an increase in accidents during this time. He urged the community to take extra measures for safety, particularly regarding fire hazards.

In his statement, Sowane specifically pointed out the risks associated with fireworks and the potential dangers of excessive alcohol consumption, both of which are prevalent during celebrations. He stressed, “We want to alert members of the public to be especially careful during this big period of celebration.”

Sowane encouraged families to keep safety a priority, reminding everyone to watch out for fire safety within their homes and to be responsible in their celebrations. By taking these precautions, Fijians can enjoy a festive season that is both joyful and secure.
