Fiji’s National Development Plan: A Vision Crafted By The People

The National Development Plan for 2025-2029 has been labeled as the people’s plan, resulting from extensive consultations with citizens across various sectors. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad announced the plan’s launch in Suva, emphasizing that over 21,000 individuals, including civil society organizations, industry representatives, disciplined forces, academics, students, and faith-based groups, were engaged to gather their concerns and ideas.

Professor Prasad stated that the plan encapsulates the aspirations of the populace, addressing their worries and desires. He highlighted the primary goal of the initiative: to enhance social well-being and ensure sustainable prosperity for all citizens. The plan aims to ensure that everyone experiences improvement in their quality of life without leaving anyone behind.

He also mentioned that the Coalition Government is setting clear targets for achievements over the next three to five years. In the initial three years, the focus will be on tackling urgent issues, or as he put it, “getting the basics right.” Key areas of concentration will include providing clean drinking water, improving roads and drainage systems, upgrading healthcare facilities, and enhancing affordable housing and school infrastructure in the most impacted regions.

Further details on this initiative will be provided in the major bulletin at 6 PM on Fiji One.
