Fiji’s National Development Plan: A Game Changer for Businesses?

The National Development Plan (NDP) aims to provide clarity for business owners, families, and other contributors to Fiji’s economy, according to Paulo Ralulu, managing director of Pacific Operations. Ralulu emphasized that the NDP will outline the requirements for establishing a business, the necessary compliance measures, and ensure tax transparency.

He stated, “From a private sector perspective, the costs are the priority.” Following that, attention will shift to finding qualified personnel to manage businesses, and finally addressing the environmental aspects.

Ralulu highlighted that the framework and policies will clearly define the requirements for businesses and the compliance needed. He noted the importance of ensuring transparency in taxation, allowing business owners to understand their tax obligations and explore investment options.

He further mentioned that the NDP addresses these critical issues. Ralulu acknowledged the government’s role in maintaining the education system, particularly through initiatives like free education, which helps keep children in school and encourages them to pursue entrepreneurship in the future.

Overall, he views the plan as a significant improvement for Fiji’s development.
