Fiji’s National Development Plan: A Call for Action!

Susana Tuisese, Vice-President of Conservation International’s Pacific Region, has emphasized the importance of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2025–2029 as a call to action for all communities to engage in its implementation. Speaking at a panel discussion at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus, she highlighted the necessity of good governance as a cornerstone for the plan’s success.

“The plan highlights the importance of monitoring and accountability by creating clear systems for evaluation,” Ms. Tuisese stated. She noted that Fiji’s NDP is not merely a guideline; it represents an urgent invitation for collective involvement to achieve its objectives. She called for collaboration between the public and the government to tackle pressing issues, stressing that good governance is critical for effective execution.

Additionally, Ms. Tuisese pointed out that the tourism sector in Fiji could see substantial growth if significant investments are directed towards enhancing services for international flights, mentioning other airports and islands as potential areas for development. “This could foster socio-economic benefits that would connect global communities to this progress,” she added.
