Fiji triumphed over the Solomon Islands in a dramatic penalty shootout, winning 6-5 in their final group match of the 2024 OFC Men’s Beach Soccer Nations Cup held in Honiara today.

The match was fiercely competitive and ended in a 2-2 draw, leading to the penalty shootout to determine the winner. Captain Tevita Waranaivalu and Steven Dean scored Fiji’s goals during regular play. Waranaivalu successfully converted Fiji’s first penalty kick, and Dean, Adriu Nabose, France Catarogo, along with goalkeepers Sanaila Waqanicakau and Ilisoni Koro, also made their attempts count.

Despite this victory, Fiji did not qualify for the final, which will see defending champions Tahiti face off against the Solomon Islands on Saturday. In previous matches, the team coached by Jerry Sam suffered defeats, losing 8-6 to Papua New Guinea and 10-1 to Tahiti.
