Prince Charles Park is set to host the George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso Homecoming Concert next month. Saliceni Raiwalui, the special administrator for Nadi Town Council, has confirmed that the park is undergoing final preparations for the event.
Mr. Raiwalui indicated that this concert would introduce a new standard for events in Nadi. He stated, “This show will bring a different taste, the sound of the Pacific carrying the spirit of Fiji.” He added, “This is going to be significant for Nadi. We are fortunate to host it here. The organizers will cover all expenses at Prince Charles Park, while we will manage the parking arrangements, planning to utilize Koroivolu Park as well.”
The council is committed to collaborating with musicians for upcoming events in the future. “We are prepared to work with them if there’s a proposal to make this an annual celebration,” Mr. Raiwalui mentioned.
The concert marks Mr. Veikoso’s return home after 40 years of promoting Pacific music globally. He shared that this homecoming transcends a mere concert experience. “It’s a celebration of our roots, our culture, and the music that connects us all. For four decades, I have been fortunate to share the spirit of Fiji and the Pacific with audiences worldwide. Now, it is time to bring that journey full circle, back to where it all began. I am honored to return home and share the music that has shaped my life alongside remarkable artists I consider family: J Boog, Maoli, and Josh Tatofi,” Mr. Veikoso expressed. He emphasized that the event is a celebration not only of his return but also of music’s power to unite and uplift communities. “This event pays tribute to our shared heritage, and I look forward to experiencing this unforgettable night with all of you,” he added.
A spokesperson from Tourism Fiji conveyed their excitement about the concert, stating, “We are thrilled about George Fiji Veikoso’s Homecoming Concert. This event not only honors his exceptional talent but also highlights Fiji’s vibrant musical landscape.” They noted that it represents a great opportunity to stimulate the local economy, foster community spirit, and showcase Fiji’s unique offerings to international visitors. “Events like this illuminate our rich culture and warm hospitality,” the spokesperson remarked.
Ticket prices range from $79 to $999 for VIP access. Local artist and aviator Big Wilz expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I’ll pay that much to watch Pojie, Josh, and Maoli. I’m grateful these artists are bringing their talents to our shores without major business sponsors, relying on their own efforts.” He added, “I will support Pojie and credit him for being a flag bearer in the music world. It’s going to be epic. Be there if you can, but don’t feel bad if you can’t. See you in Nadi.”
The concert is scheduled for September 14-15.
