Fiji’s Mobile Mania: More Phones than People!

Fiji has surpassed its total population with the number of mobile phones in the country, reportedly reaching 1.31 million last year. Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru noted that this figure suggests that individuals may own two or three devices. He pointed out that the population has not yet hit one million.

Moreover, even those living below the poverty line possess mobile phones. The minister highlighted that the youth demographic comprises the largest group of users and developers who are influencing digital trends globally. He emphasized the importance of recognizing this age group as vital in harnessing technology’s transformative power to tackle global challenges.

Saukuru stressed the significant potential of young people in utilizing digital avenues for sustainable development, aiming to create a brighter future for coming generations.
