Fiji’s Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, recently visited the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) stationed at Camp Ziouani in the Golan Heights, alongside Brigadier General Manoa Gadai, the Commander of Joint Task Force Command. This visit seeks to enhance the logistical and operational framework for Fijian peacekeepers, which includes the 1st Fiji Infantry Regiment (1FIR) and Fiji Batt 11 currently deployed in the region.
During his stay, Tikoduadua met with Amedeo Micelli, the acting head of the UNDOF mission. Discussions revolved around the vital shipment of seven Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles from Blackrock Camp in Fiji to Camp Ziouani, emphasizing the commitment to improving equipment and support for the stationed forces.
In addition to the operational meetings, Tikoduadua and General Gadai participated in the UNDOF Easter Resurrection Sunday Church Service at Camp Ziouani, which highlights the community spirit among soldiers deployed in challenging environments.
This visit aligns with a broader strategy to bolster Fiji’s international peacekeeping efforts and reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the welfare and operational readiness of its military personnel abroad.
With continuous dialogue and support for the military, there is optimism for heightened recognition of Fijian contributions to global peacekeeping, fostering an encouraging outlook for future missions and the welfare of soldiers serving overseas.
