Fiji is set to see an increase in its national minimum wage from $4.50 to $5.00 per hour beginning on April 1, 2025, as part of a phased strategy aimed at improving wages nationally. This follows an earlier wage adjustment that raised the rate from $4.00 to $4.50 per hour on August 1, 2024. Employers will have a six-month transition period to comply with the upcoming adjustment.
The Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations has confirmed that this decision was made after extensive discussions with various stakeholders, reaffirming the Coalition Government’s commitment to ensuring fair wages that enable workers to keep up with rising living costs. Minister Agni Deo Singh emphasized the need for regular wage reviews and highlighted that the ministry will bolster enforcement efforts to guarantee that all employers adhere to the new rates.
This initiative aligns with ongoing labor reforms intended to improve economic conditions and living standards for many workers in Fiji. The ministry is prepared to conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with the updated wage regulations, underscoring the government’s dedication to protecting workers’ rights.
