The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, has emphasized the importance of international defense partnerships. In a recent interview, he highlighted the necessity of addressing security challenges as they emerge in both regional and global contexts. He noted that the RFMF currently lacks the capacity to effectively confront these rapidly evolving threats.
Kalouniwai pointed out that many of these security issues arise unexpectedly, leaving the military unprepared. He believes that collaboration with international defense partners enhances their understanding of these threats and provides valuable insights into addressing them.
Furthermore, he mentioned that these partnerships contribute significantly to capacity-building training and infrastructure development, which are essential for the military’s readiness to respond to various situations.
