For the first time, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has presented its annual reports for the years 2019 to 2022 to Parliament. This marks a significant step, as there have been no publicly available annual reports archived on the Parliament of Fiji website since 2009 until last week’s submission.
In the recently released 2021-2022 report, Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai described the past year as one of transition for the RFMF. He highlighted several complex and evolving threats faced by the military, which included challenges arising from the global pandemic, transnational issues, maritime security concerns, and climate security.
Despite these hurdles, Commander Kalouniwai affirmed the RFMF’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation and fostering peace and stability on an international scale. He emphasized the military’s capability to adapt to shifting circumstances and execute its operations with precision and efficiency, both domestically and in international engagements.
Commander Kalouniwai expressed it was an honor to present the report, which he hopes will accurately reflect the commendable work carried out daily by the military personnel. He emphasized the importance of supporting the brave men and women in uniform and aims to inspire further backing for their dedication and service.
This presentation not only highlights the operational transparency of the RFMF but also showcases its proactive approach in confronting diverse challenges. The commitment to accountability and the acknowledgment of the military’s efforts can foster greater public trust and support for national defense.
In conclusion, the RFMF’s initiative to make these reports public can be seen as a hopeful development for transparency and civic engagement, paving the way for enhanced communication between the military and the citizens it serves.
