Fiji’s Military Forces Kick Off Historic Reconciliation Event

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces is hosting the inaugural RFMF Reconciliation and Restoration event at Sukunaivalu Barracks in Labasa.

The event commenced with a church service, establishing a reflective atmosphere for a significant day of healing. Following the service, a series of talanoa sessions will be conducted by the Commander of the RFMF, Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, accompanied by former military personnel who participated in the takeover of Sukunaivalu VC Barracks.

Although the event was intended to culminate with a traditional Fijian reconciliation ceremony called veisorosorovi, where the RFMF aims to seek forgiveness in a meaningful act, this portion has been postponed and will take place tomorrow.

Additionally, the RFMF plans to extend its gesture by seeking forgiveness from the Province of Macuata during a reconciliation ceremony that will follow Fijian protocols.

More updates will be provided during this evening’s major news bulletin at 6 PM.
