Fiji’s Mikaele Ravalaca Eyes WBA Oceania Lightweight Title in Suva Showdown

Local boxing star Mikaele Ravalaca is set to face Francis Chua from Australia in a significant showdown for the WBA Oceania Lightweight title. This upcoming bout, scheduled for Saturday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, marks Ravalaca’s third title fight, following his triumph in securing the Fiji Lightweight title in his debut match.

Despite his successful track record in Australia, technicalities have hindered Ravalaca from claiming titles previously, thus amplifying the importance of this fight as he aims for victory in front of a home crowd. “Winning the WBA Oceania title here is monumental for me; my family and friends will be there cheering me on, and it will make the victory even more special,” Ravalaca stated.

Ravalaca’s preparations have been intensive as he focuses on enhancing his fitness and speed to counter Chua, who is recognized as an experienced opponent. “We know fighting against international challengers won’t be easy, but I am leaving no stone unturned in my training,” he emphasized, reflecting on the rigorous commitment he has made to ensure his readiness for the match.

Adopting a strategic approach, Ravalaca plans to assess his opponent’s stamina and seize any opportunities for a knockout during the fight. “Every fight has a winner and a loser, and I’ll be testing my opponent’s limits. If the chance arises, I aim to secure a knockout,” he remarked confidently.

In addition to Ravalaca’s much-anticipated match, the event features other title defenses on the card. Notable fighters include Junior Binnu Singh challenging Apichart Klintai of Thailand for the WBA Oceania Interim title, and Sunny Morini, who will take on Ravudi for the New Zealand Professional Boxing Commission title.

The anticipation surrounding Ravalaca’s fight also reflects the growing excitement in Fijian boxing, nurturing a promising environment for emerging talent in the sport. Boxing enthusiasts are encouraged to attend and witness this thrilling event, showcasing not only Ravalaca’s aspirations but also the invigorating potential of boxing in Fiji. The bout represents a hopeful moment for local athletes, underscoring their dedication and passion in pursuit of success on both national and international stages.
