The Ministry of Fisheries Research, in partnership with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), has successfully conducted a two-day financial literacy workshop aimed at enhancing the livelihoods within Fiji’s mabe pearl sector.
The workshop took place in Savusavu from February 24 to 25, 2026, focusing on empowering local mabe pearl farming communities by improving their financial management skills. Participants gained practical knowledge to effectively manage their income and expenses, thereby increasing profitability and fostering the long-term sustainability of their pearl farming ventures.
Organizers emphasized that enhancing financial literacy is vital for empowering communities, enabling them to take more control of their operations and achieve more stable economic outcomes. This initiative is a significant step towards strengthening the economic foundations of those involved in the mabe pearl industry, highlighting a commitment to supporting local livelihoods and sustainable development in the region.
