The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji has taken a significant step forward by initiating its first long-term international staff exchange program. Senior Vehicle Examiner Arveen Chand has commenced a six-month training stint with Vehicle Inspection New Zealand (VINZ). This program is part of LTA’s broader goals to enhance technical expertise and build global partnerships in vehicle inspection and compliance.

LTA’s CEO, Irimaia Rokosawa, described this initiative as a milestone that aims to elevate the authority’s capabilities in critical areas such as electric vehicle inspections and regulatory processes. By facilitating knowledge exchange and skill enhancement, LTA hopes to set a benchmark in the region.

Chand, who began his career with LTA in 2005, expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for this opportunity, viewing it as a significant highlight of his personal and professional journey. The exchange program plans to foster a two-way relationship, inviting VINZ officers to Fiji in return, indicating a commitment to ongoing cooperation and learning.

This endeavor aligns with previous initiatives by the LTA to enhance vehicle safety and compliance standards. Recent efforts to upgrade offshore vehicle inspection protocols were aimed at ensuring that second-hand vehicles conform to safety regulations before entering the Fijian market. These collaborative measures involve partnerships with various governmental agencies, showcasing a broader commitment to public safety and transparency.

As the LTA expands its programs and partnerships, including future initiatives in its various departments, the goal remains to create a globally connected organization prepared to adapt to emerging automotive trends and consumer needs.

This proactive program embodies a hopeful vision for the future of Fiji’s transport authority, promising improved road safety and operational excellence for the benefit of all road users.
