Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced plans for a reshuffle of ministerial roles, aiming to improve the effectiveness and equity of his government. He expressed concerns over the existing distribution of responsibilities among ministers, indicating that he often finds himself working late into the night to manage government files—a situation he deems unfair to both the citizens of Fiji and the dedicated civil servants who depend on strong leadership.

Currently, Pio Tikoduadua serves as the Home Affairs Minister, overseeing the Army, while Prime Minister Rabuka himself manages the Police Force and Immigration. Rabuka has noted that Tikoduadua has temporarily stepped aside amid an ongoing investigation concerning the potential unauthorized issuance of passports linked to children of individuals involved in the Grace Road human rights situation. He clarified that Tikoduadua is not under investigation for drug-related issues.

In light of the investigation, Tikoduadua has committed to fully cooperate and seek to rebuild any trust that may have been affected.

This proactive approach by Prime Minister Rabuka to address leadership concerns and instate a fair government structure reflects a commitment to transparency and accountability in Fiji’s political landscape. By taking these steps, the government can reassure citizens and civil servants that integrity and fairness remain at the forefront of governance.

Overall, the situation represents an opportunity for improvement within the Fijian government, as the reshuffle may lead to more streamlined operations and increased public trust in the leadership.
