The Public Service Commission, in collaboration with the Prime Minister, has announced the re-appointment of six Permanent Secretaries following a thorough recruitment process. PSC Chairperson Luke Rokovada emphasized that these leaders will steer their respective ministries through the next stage of growth and development.
Rokovada explained that the decision to reappoint these officials was made after an extensive evaluation process, concluding that their in-depth knowledge of their ministries, demonstrated success, and strong visions for the future make them suitable for continued leadership.
The re-appointed Permanent Secretaries include Pita Tagicakirewa for I-Taukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, whose term extends until November 2025; Seema Sharma for Local Government, reappointed until December 2025; and Yogesh Karan for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, also until December 2025. Shaheen Ali will continue as Permanent Secretary for Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications until December 2025.
Susan Kiran has been reappointed as Secretary to Cabinet until June 2026 and will also take on the role of Permanent Secretary for Information starting September 2, 2024. Dr. Raijeli Taga has been reappointed as Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources until her transition to a new Ministry in October 2024.
Rokovada noted that all re-appointed Permanent Secretaries are Fijian citizens, underscoring the growth of local talent and the Civil Service’s effectiveness in retaining qualified professionals.
