Fiji’s Leaders Stand United Amidst Rumors of Defection

Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru has affirmed his commitment to serving all Fijians, stating that his work will remain unaffected by individuals with “selfish and hidden agendas.” In response to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s remarks regarding some Cabinet ministers from The People’s Alliance party reportedly considering the formation of a new party, Saukuru expressed his unwavering support for both Rabuka and the party.

He recalled how he answered the call of his chiefs to participate in the 2022 General Election under the Prime Minister’s leadership without hesitation. “My allegiance is unshakable, and I will not be swayed by whispers or backdoor schemes,” Saukuru emphasized. He is dedicated to serving the youth of Fiji and will not permit anyone with ulterior motives to disrupt the current efforts of the government. He reiterated the importance of respecting the mandate received from the vanua and the voters, committing not to betray that trust.

Saukuru also wished luck to those attempting to destabilize the party with their “petty plots,” asserting that such actions will not hinder the future the party is working to build for Fiji.

Furthermore, Fisheries Minister Alitia Bainivalu echoed similar sentiments, stating that there is no place for division or personal agendas that threaten national unity. She firmly aligned herself with Prime Minister Rabuka and The People’s Alliance party, stressing that their primary focus is on Fiji’s stability and prosperity.

Bainivalu dismissed speculation and rumors, insisting they have no role in their work. She also extended good wishes to those considering leaving the party to establish their own, declaring, “We’re moving forward without you. We will build the Fiji that all Fijians deserve.”

Minister for Local Government and Housing Maciu Nalumisa also expressed his support for Prime Minister Rabuka, affirming his backing for the leadership.
