Three siblings, Thaddeus, Charis, and Theola Kwong, are set to represent Fiji’s swimming team at the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Palau next week. A proud father, Wah Kwong, highlighted that swimming is a vital part of Fijian culture, given the country’s proximity to the ocean. Expressing his pride, he remarked on their self-driven approach to the sport, indicating a supportive home environment.

The Kwong siblings, originally from Bucalevu in Ra, are all homeschooled, allowing them to effectively balance their studies with intense training schedules that include daily morning sessions and gym workouts. Their mother, Moreen Kwong, noted that they have consistently set ambitious goals for themselves, emphasizing the hard work and preparation that led to their selection for the national team.

Thaddeus and Theola are set to compete in swimming, aquathlon, and the triathlon relay, while Charis will showcase her talent in the sprint triathlon and also join the triathlon relay. The family’s commitment to swimming is further reflected in their achievements, with Thaddeus having made headlines for breaking several national records recently.

The anticipation is building as Team Fiji prepares to head to Palau, with the Mini Games starting on June 29. This event not only represents a significant milestone for the Kwong siblings but also embodies the dedication and unity of Fiji’s sporting community, celebrating both personal and national pride in athletic achievements.

As they embark on this journey, there is a hopeful sentiment surrounding Team Fiji’s participation, with the expectation that their hard work will shine through on this international platform, presenting an opportunity to inspire other young athletes in Fiji.
