The Ministry of Justice in Fiji recently completed a public awareness outreach campaign aimed at improving access to essential services, including those related to election reform and the implementation of the new Law and Justice Sector Reform Initiative. Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga announced that a total of 651 individuals accessed services from the Births, Deaths, and Marriages (BDM) Registry during the campaign, which included new and late birth registrations, as well as the issuance of vital certificates and court marriage services.

Additionally, the outreach saw 1,285 people utilizing the Registry of Companies for various services such as new business registrations, renewals, and general inquiries. Turaga emphasized the importance of these efforts, which took place in various locations such as Gau, Cakaudrove, Rotuma, Levuka, Tailevu, Rewa, and Ra from January to March 2025.

The Ministry’s focus on inclusivity and accessibility reflects a commitment to serve rural and maritime communities, ensuring that all Fijians have equal access to necessary legal services. This initiative is supported by previous outreach efforts, demonstrating a gradual expansion of services tailored to meet community needs.

Looking forward, the Ministry plans to continue facilitating essential services, with additional outreach and registry offices set to open in more locations across Fiji. This reflects a positive trajectory toward more engaged and empowered communities capable of accessing the services they need.

By making these initiatives a priority, the government is fostering a sense of trust and connection with citizens, ultimately working towards a more equitable society. Such outreach is crucial in supporting the rights of individuals in underserved areas and strengthens the broader goal of making justice accessible to all.
