Fiji’s Junior Kulas Set to Make History at FIFA U20 World Cup!

Fiji’s President, Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, praised the Junior Kulas for their achievements and expressed gratitude toward the coaches, management, and young athletes. In a speech to the team before their farewell for the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup in Colombia, the President noted this marks the first time a women’s team from Fiji will compete at such a prestigious level in the FIFA World Championship.

The nation, which has a strong rugby tradition, is now gaining international recognition for its accomplishments in soccer. President Katonivere highlighted Fiji’s track record of excelling in sports, stating that the women’s soccer team’s success opens a significant new chapter in the country’s sporting history.

He acknowledged the various challenges the team faces, including issues related to funding, infrastructure, and facilities. Additionally, the President lauded the coaching and management staff for their unwavering preparation efforts, both mental and physical. He recognized the sacrifices made by players and their families and honored the contributions of team manager Naziah Ali Krishna, who is also the wife of Fiji’s football captain, Roy Krishna.

Katonivere assured the team of continued support from the State House, the Government, and the nation, stating, “We will continue to support and pray for the team and the management as you lead and mentor these young ladies who are about to represent Fiji.”

The Junior Kulas will compete in Pool B against France, Canada, and Brazil, marking a significant milestone for women’s football in Fiji. Their participation is expected to inspire the next generation of athletes and unify the nation in support of its team on the global stage. The team, coached by Angeline Chua, will kick off their campaign against Brazil on August 31 at 6 PM, followed by matches against Canada on September 3 at 8 PM and France on September 6 at 5 PM.
