The Digicel Fiji Junior Kulas achieved their first victory in the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship by defeating the Cook Islands 2-0 in Suva yesterday. This win was essential for maintaining their chances of reaching the semi-finals. Sisilia Tuvou Kuladina and Grace Lakavutu were the goal scorers for Fiji, with Kuladina also providing a crucial assist. Fiji established a 2-0 lead by halftime.
Despite a strong second-half effort from the Cook Islands, which included multiple saves from their goalkeeper, Fiji held onto their lead. This result positions Fiji second in Group A, as the Cook Islands aim to conclude their group stage on a high note against Tonga in their final match.
Fiji faces Samoa on Saturday, needing a win to secure the top position in the pool. The match is scheduled for 3 PM at the HFC Bank Stadium. A draw or a win for Samoa would see them advance to the semi-finals as the pool winners. The two top teams from the tournament will go on to represent Oceania at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Qatar next year.
