The Digicel Fiji Junior Kulas achieved a 1-0 win against the Solomon Islands to claim fifth place in the OFC Women’s Under-16 Championship held in Suva yesterday.
Sisilia Kuladina scored the only goal of the match with a remarkable direct free-kick taken from outside the penalty area in the 70th minute. Her shot struck the crossbar before bouncing into the net. Having previously scored another long-range free-kick in the tournament, Kuladina showed her consistency and skill, putting the hosts ahead.
Fiji nearly doubled their lead shortly after, as Aleeza Taza launched an attack by passing to Suliana Vuniyayawa, who linked up with Tabunase, setting her up for a shot. However, the attempt was lackluster and easily saved by goalkeeper Fiona Goroani.
The goal deflated the Solomon Islands, who, despite their efforts, could not find an equalizer as Fiji maintained their narrow advantage to secure fifth place. This victory came after Fiji’s previous setback, losing 1-0 to Samoa in their last pool match.
In other news, Samoa is prepared to compete against New Zealand in the final scheduled for 3 PM tomorrow, with both teams having already qualified for next year’s FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup.
