The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) wrapped up its eight-month Reconciliation and Restoration Program, which focused on fostering national healing and reconciliation. Launched in March, the program allowed RFMF officers to engage with families impacted by the May 2000 coup, seeking forgiveness and understanding.
The concluding ceremony featured a wreath-laying tribute to those who lost their lives during that tumultuous time, followed by a church service and a traditional “matanigasau” ceremony. This was particularly significant for the families of eight soldiers who perished during the 2000 mutiny, including members of the Counter Revolutionary Warfare Unit. The event was attended by His Excellency, President Ratu Williame Katonivere, and was highlighted by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s heartfelt call for forgiveness.
