Fiji’s Jiuta Wainiqolo Shatters Defenders Beaten Record in Epic Match

Fiji Water Flying Fijians winger Jiuta Wainiqolo made a remarkable impact in his team’s 30-17 victory over Montpellier, breaking the record for the most defenders beaten in a single match with 19. This achievement, confirmed by Opta and RugbyPass, stands out across the four major rugby leagues: Top 14, Super Rugby, URC, and Premiership.

The 25-year-old, who is also an Olympic 7s gold medallist, showcased his prowess by covering 155 metres during the match. He completed 10 carries and recorded 2 clean line breaks. Wainiqolo capped off the win with an impressive solo effort, picking up a loose ball from halfway and skillfully evading multiple defenders to score in Round 7 of the French Top 14 competition.

In other highlights, fellow Olympic gold medalist and utility back Sireli Maqala contributed a try for his Bayonne team during their 32-15 win over Josua Tuisova’s Racing 92. However, another Fijian player, Adrea Cocagi, received a red card for a high elbow in Castres’ comfortable 35-13 victory against Stade Francais.
