Over $200,000 in financial assistance has been awarded to four successful applicants through the iTaukei Development Fund Facility, aimed at bolstering business development among iTaukei landowners. The assistance was officially presented by Ifereimi Vasu, the Minister for iTaukei Affairs and Chairman of the iTaukei Land Trust Board.
Vasu emphasized that this initiative seeks to unlock the economic potential of iTaukei communities by providing targeted financial support tailored to their needs. The recipients of the funding come from the provinces of Ba, Bua, and Serua, with their projects spanning tourism, agriculture, eco-tourism, and infrastructure services.
Among the notable recipients, Tokatoka Sautorotoro from Ba received $98,283 to enhance tourist transportation services through the acquisition of two vehicles. Dama Village Investment in Bua was awarded $100,000, intended for road vegetation control efforts with the purchase of a truck and start-up capital. In Serua, Ana Gasaucalayawa was allocated $20,475 to launch an eco-tourism venture along the scenic Upper Navua River, while Iosefo Vakalelebula received $20,412 to advance farming development, which includes establishing a nursery and constructing a poultry shed.
In a heartfelt expression of gratitude, Gasaucalayawa spoke on behalf of all recipients, thanking the board for fostering opportunities that enable iTaukei communities to embark on business ventures and create sustainable livelihoods. The ongoing support from the iTaukei Development Fund Facility plays a vital role in empowering iTaukei landowners, enabling them to take more active roles in Fiji’s expanding economy. This initiative not only nurtures entrepreneurship but also contributes positively to the overall growth and development of local communities.
