In late May, the Harbourpoint Convention Centre in Lami hosted an important discussion aimed at enhancing business opportunities for the iTaukei community. The gathering, organized by the Fiji Indigenous Business Council (FIBC) under the leadership of Ulaisi Taoi, focused on empowering local businesses and encouraging their involvement in the global market.
Over the course of two days, the discussions included strategies to establish a permanent office for the FIBC, which would serve as a crucial hub for indigenous entrepreneurs. Taoi emphasized the potential impact of this initiative, stating that the new office would significantly support the 91 businesses currently part of the council.
Taoi highlighted that the proposed office would feature essential facilities such as a board room, training room, secretariat, and eight smaller workspaces (cubicles) to facilitate collaboration and productivity among members. This development aims to streamline communication and offer vital training opportunities for business management and financial strategies.
The office will not only host regular meetings but also provide a platform for networking and collaboration within the iTaukei business community. Taoi noted the initiative is an essential step towards better representation and support for local entrepreneurs, helping them navigate the complexities of running successful businesses.
Importantly, this move is expected to encourage more iTaukei individuals to pursue entrepreneurship, creating a stronger economic impact within the community. The FIBC aims to guide budding entrepreneurs through challenges, ensuring that they have the resources and knowledge necessary for success.
The opening of the office is slated for November 28, with plans to expand to regional offices in Lautoka, Labasa, and Rakiraki. This initiative reflects a forward-thinking approach to fostering business growth within the iTaukei community, ultimately paving the way for a more prosperous future.
Overall, the establishment of the FIBC office is a significant milestone that highlights the commitment to uplift the iTaukei community, encouraging more individuals to engage in business ventures and ultimately contributing to a thriving economy.
