All participants at the inaugural Fiji Innovation Hub Hackathon received recognition as winners during the three-day event hosted at the Reserve Bank of Fiji. The hackathon featured fifteen participants divided into three teams, competing across categories of Fintech, Ease of Doing Business, and Sustainability. Winning teams were rewarded with $3,000, while second-place teams earned $2,000 and third-place teams received complementary prizes.
Teams presented creative business ideas specifically designed to meet the goals of their respective categories. The diverse group of participants included individuals from startups, established businesses, the broader workforce, and students, showcasing a rich tapestry of innovation and collaboration.
New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Greg Andrews commended the participants, noting that the ideas shared during the event demonstrate the shifting landscape of Fiji’s business environment. He emphasized the significant potential these innovations hold for impacting the nation’s economic future in a positive way.
The Hackathon received support from various organizations including UNDP, the governments of New Zealand and Australia, Mastercard, the Reserve Bank of Fiji, and the Ministry of Finance, highlighting a collaborative effort to foster innovation and economic growth in the region. This event not only showcased creativity and problem-solving skills but also paved the way for future entrepreneurial endeavors within Fiji.
