Amelia Komaisavai, the director of the Immigration Department, has been placed on leave while an inquiry is conducted regarding the unauthorized issuance of Fijian passports to the children of two members of Grace Roads Church. Reports suggest that the manager of passports within the Immigration Department has also been sent on leave in connection to this issue.
In response to the situation, Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua has initiated an investigation to determine how these passports were processed without his authorization or knowledge.
This investigation highlights the importance of maintaining integrity and oversight within government operations. It’s a crucial step towards ensuring that such incidents do not occur in the future, promoting transparency and accountability within the immigration system.
This situation, while concerning, can ultimately serve as a catalyst for positive change within the department, reinforcing the value of proper procedures and checks to protect the integrity of national resources like passports.
