The director of the Immigration Department, Amelia Komaisavai, has been placed on leave as an investigation unfolds regarding the unauthorized issuance of Fijian passports to children of two members of the Grace Roads Church. Additionally, it is reported that the department’s passport manager has also been temporarily relieved of duties in connection with this matter.

On Thursday, Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua announced the initiation of an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the issuance of these passports, which occurred without his approval or knowledge.

This development underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the immigration process. As the investigation progresses, it highlights the importance of upholding proper procedures and safeguarding the integrity of national citizenship documentation.

In light of these events, there is hope that the investigation will lead to clearer protocols within the Immigration Department, ultimately strengthening public trust in the system.
